A Happy Holiday is Good for Business!

Having a happy holiday season with friends and family is not just about creating new and happy memories, it’s important for your health and the health of your business.  So many of us get caught in the busyness of the season and struggle with the challenge of getting away.  It’s hard work taking a break.  But a true break from work is essential.  So, get ready to unplug from your business for a few days over the holidays.

Upon reviewing the past 3 years of holiday messages to our clients and colleagues, the same themes kept appearing for the times we live in – turbulent, challenging, intense. In 2022 that was no different, often causing stress and anxiety in our food sector. As we enter a recession and continuing inflationary times in 2023, we will experience more challenges to manage, but you know what? Those issues can wait until January and a good break will bring you focus and renewed determination to deal with them then.

It’s time for you to take care of yourself over the holidays. Whether you own a food business, or work in the BC food industry, it’s important for your physical and mental health to take this opportunity to relax and recharge.

Here are some simple suggestions to loosen you up.

Minimize Device Use

Only use them for fun, otherwise it will just drag you back into an unread email, or a picture of some new equipment you’d like, or invoices that need attention. Put them in a drawer.

Get Out of Routine

Sleeping, eating, exercise, socializing, reading, exploring, games. Put an emphasis on fun and silliness balanced by absolute do-nothing time.

Have Fun with Food

Besides the usual holiday fare, try something you’ve never done before. Cook or bake something not related to your business. Try new restaurants or take-out and experience new flavours and cultures. Sit in a coffee shop by yourself.

Force yourself away from your food business or job. By taking time to rest, chill out, and focus elsewhere, you’ll be reenergized, more creative, and more productive to attack your goals and dreams.

Before you turn off the lights to start your holiday, give yourself a pat on the back. Celebrate all the good things that you’ve experienced in 2022. Even the smallest accomplishments can add up to propelling your success.

And then, rest and rejuvenate. Kick back in a cup of hot chocolate or something stronger, and imagine what mischief you can get into.

The Farm Food Drink team welcomes the Christmas season with the same passion we bring to supporting the evolution of the BC Food Industry. We’re excited for what’s coming with a New Year arriving full of promise and hope.

We’re shutting our doors for a few days, too, so we can refresh our creative juices. Until January, enjoy whatever you celebrate at this time of year.

Happy Holidays from your Farm Food Drink team!
