Clarity Opens Path to 2025 Goals

Table of Contents

You have a vision for your agri-food business, but the sector is still in a bit of a mess with volatile markets and disruptive social situations. Inflation continues, purchasing and distribution options change, retailers alter their programs and processes. There continues to be a lot of change and challenges.

So, what should you focus on in 2024 in order to move towards your 2025 goals?

Farm Food Drink’s recommendation is to embrace ‘clarity’.

Clarity of Vision

Business owners often get tangled up in ‘doing’ things and forget about why they’re in business in the first place. When you have clarity on your business’s vision and mission, it makes it easier to make decisions to conduct different aspects of your business.

Check in with yourself and your team to see if everything still falls in line with the vision you have established.

Clarity in Direction

This year will still present a lot of industry challenges, but with confident clarity of what you need to achieve, short and long term goals can drive you forward.

Start with your key objectives for the year and work backwards by creating S.M.A.R.T. goals. You can establish these goals with Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely details that are clear and tangible.

Ensure that your internal team, any stakeholders, and even your customers understand that clarity. And when faced with unexpected challenges, know that as a small business you also have the competitive advantage of being nimble to shift when and where you need to.

Clarity in Marketing

Marketing can be complicated and confusing. Clarity is the most important aspect of branding and marketing across all communications channels to effectively connect with your target audience.

Be consistent and clear in your messaging and intentional with your campaigns, versus random and unplanned. Lean Stream Marketing (a Farm Food Drink specialty) can help you be more efficient, by testing your activities with fewer resources and learning immediately from the results.

Simplicity and being lean are the keys to achieving best results.

Clarity in Operations

Struggling with labour issues, production costs, and shipping is a continuing reality for small food business owners. It’s imperative to have clarity about every aspect of your operations from sourcing ingredients to how your product gets into the hands of the consumer, and every step in between.

How can you produce more with less? Create strong systems and processes. By creating and relying on structure, you’ll be more able to see where you can improve.

There are many shiny objects to tease you into trying new things and looking at innovation. Be sure that any new approaches can improve short or long term results both in production and marketing efficiencies. Innovation in itself is not always the answer. Ensure it’s practical for you at this point.

The roller coaster we’re on in the food business world will continue in 2024. So hold on! Keep your 2025 vision in sight, and make efforts to plan your objectives along the way. Being prepared for adaptability is essential.
